Understanding GatorGradCare and the University’s Health Insurance Requirement

Graduate Assistants appointed .25 FTE or greater are eligible to enroll in the GatorGradCare health insurance plan. Enrollment in employee-only GatorGradCare coverage is automatic at day 61 of employment. Plan information and details on enrollment can be found on the UF HR Benefits website.

If you have GatorGradCare insurance, you must complete a waiver.

GatorGradCare insurance meets the health insurance requirement for students. If you already have health insurance, including GatorGradCare, you must complete an online insurance waiver every year to opt out of the United Healthcare policy by the Fee Payment Deadline.

New GatorGradCare enrollees must complete a draft of the insurance waiver before the deadline, but this does not automatically enroll you in GatorGradCare.

There may be a charge for the United Healthcare insurance plan on your bursar account until your GatorGradCare coverage is confirmed and the waiver is finalized. If you haven’t used the United Healthcare plan, the charge will be reversed once your insurance waiver is completed. However, if you’ve used the United Healthcare plan, you cannot cancel the coverage or get a refund, even if you later enroll in GatorGradCare.
